Brian Elston Law Celebrates the 89th Asheville Tennis Open

The 89th Asheville Open Tennis Championships, presented by Brian Elston Law, will be held at Aston Park Tennis Center in Asheville, NC. Adult Tennis competition is July 6-11, 2021 and Junior Tennis competition is July 23-25, 2021. Click here for more information.

2020 was a difficult year with many restrictions and cancellations in place. The 2020 Asheville Tennis Open was cancelled as a precaution for the safety of the players and audience. Yet Brian Elston Law was still able to participate in bringing tennis to the community through the Free Tennis Kit Program which allowed us, in partnership with the Asheville Tennis Association, to donate tennis rackets, balls, and nets to dozens of families in our local community.

This year the Asheville Tennis Association has really stepped up its game, creating programs for handicap players, players with autism, and more. Their new tennis programs create more inclusive experiences to meet challenges in the Asheville community, adding adaptive tennis to their calendar. Click this link to learn more about their adaptive tennis program.

Join Brian Elston, Reed Williams, and Chad Donnahoo in welcoming an amazing summer filled with tennis, inclusivity, and the celebration of sports.

While 2021 has already introduced its fair share of change, Brian Elston Law is pleased to support youth baseball, a sport that James Earl Jones in Field of Dreams has stated is a constant for America.

“One of our goals for each client is to provide stability as they go through personal injury accidents, workers’ compensation injuries, and employment disputes. So, the opportunity to support youth baseball and provide stability to players, parents and the community during these times is inline with our mission.” says Brian Elston. The organization is Mountain Fire Baseball Association, and Elston will also serve as a coach of one of the teams.

To learn more about Mountain Fire Baseball Association including tryouts and upcoming game schedule (TBD) check out the website at mountainfirebaseball.org

Thank you for everyone that suggested so many amazing causes to support. To follow up on our Spirit of Giving post, we told the community that this year, we wanted to do something different. Instead of cards and calendars, we’d like to give back to a local worthy cause. We asked for everyone’s input and received great feedback.

This year, we’ve made donations to 10 non-profits and it felt good to be part of the change we wish to see in the world.

I did want to highlight two causes in particular.

Western North Carolina Area of Narcotics Anonymous

Holidays can be tough, and for those with addiction issues, dealing with family, stress, money for presents, it can be even tougher. Now, add on to the stress that you can’t meet with your support group because of the plague, it is even tougher. For those that know me, my brother Jeff passed away around this time last year due to addiction. By all accounts, his NA group meant so much to him, and him to them. At his funeral, they shared memorable stories of his wonderful sense of humor, often heard laughter, and his constant willingness to help others either by helping them with their cars or just sharing his struggles and faith. Addiction, anxiety, depression, and stuff happens. Everyone deals with it in some sort of fashion, and it is okay to reach out to a brother or sister to share in the struggle. Check out Western North Carolina Area of Narcotics Anonymous if you just need a minute.

Live Free 999

Along those same lines, Live Free 999 supports young people in their battles with addiction, anxiety and depression. If you haven’t heard, check out Wishing Well by Juice Wrld. Some say, (and this person will know who said this when they read it), it is the greatest song ever written.

Here is the full list of charities we donated to

Please check them out and consider offering donations to one or more of these worthy causes.

Each year around this time, my firm sends out Christmas Cards and calendars to clients and contacts. This year is different, which I know is an understatement. It just seems a bit hollow this year sending out cards wishing everyone a Merry Christmas when I know that 2020 has been very hard. So, this year, we want to do something different. Instead of cards and calendars, we’d like to give back to a local worthy cause. If anyone has any suggestions, please share below and we’ll do our best to help out this year.

Let Us Know What You Think

We would love the communities feedback in finding ways to give back and help out this year. Please send us an email or click on the Social Media posts below to add comments. We look forward to your suggestions!

We received a lot of great feedback and made our charity donation choices for this Holiday Season. Click here for information and links.

ata tennis program

By BRIAN ELSTON

Brian Elston Law is working with the Asheville Tennis Association to provide free tennis kits to support children and their family that may not have access to tennis gear.

The tennis kits consist of a 10-foot movable net, four rackets, and three tennis balls. In addition to using the kits for these free clinics, the ATA also plans to give 75 of them away to families in under-served areas who have limited-to-no access to courts.

Recently, ATA President Jeff Joyce spoke to WLOS about the program:

“These under-served populations in the housing projects and other low-income areas don’t have that same advantage. Therefore, we’re taking it to them, which is what we should be doing.”

The kits were donated by the Brian Elston Law, and the ATA has been communicating with various non-profits and community organizations to identify families to receive them. The clinic at the Grant Center was the seventh of the summer so far.
